Window Glass Repair & Replacement, Toronto & the GTA

Toronto Glass Repair handles window glass replacement and broken window glass repair across Toronto and the GTA. We replace the glass and keep your existing frame, so it costs less and goes in faster. Single and double-pane, residential and commercial, same-day.

01What we cover

Window glass we repair and replace

Most broken windows do not need a whole new window. We take out the broken window glass, fit a new pane into your existing frame, and leave the sash and hardware as they are.

That covers cracked single panes, shattered sealed double-pane units, basement windows, picture windows and large fixed glass, in homes and commercial buildings alike. If a pane is wide open to the weather or the street, we secure it the same visit and fit the new glass once it is cut.

Cracked and shattered panes

From a single crack to a fully shattered pane, in wood, vinyl and aluminum frames.

Single-pane glass replacement

Older homes, sheds, garages and single-glazed windows. Cut and fitted to your opening.

Double-pane window replacement

Sealed insulated units that have broken or lost their seal. Replaced as a matched unit, not just one side.

Basement window glass replacement

Small hopper and slider basement windows, often the first to take a hit from a kicked ball or a break-in.

Picture and large fixed glass

Picture window glass replacement and big fixed panes, measured and fitted to spec.

Commercial window panes

Office, retail and building window pane replacement, single-pane and sealed units.

02In an emergency

Can you replace just the glass, not the whole frame?

Yes, and that is what we do on most window jobs. If the frame and sash are sound, we replace only the broken glass and leave the frame in place. It is faster, cheaper, and your window looks and works exactly as before.

  • We measure the opening, remove the broken glass, and fit a new pane into your existing frame.
  • Wood, vinyl and aluminum frames all stay where they are when they are in good shape.
  • If the frame itself is rotted, bent or cracked, we will tell you on site instead of forcing a glass-only fix.

Double-pane vs single-pane glass: what do I have?

Look at the edge of the glass. A single pane is one sheet, common in older homes and garages. A double-pane unit is two sheets with a sealed air gap between them, standard in most modern windows for insulation. The two are replaced differently.

Single-pane glass is a straight cut-to-size sheet, typically 3 to 6 mm thick, and is quick to fit. A double-pane window is a sealed insulated unit, usually two 3 to 4 mm panes bonded around a spacer, and it has to be replaced as one matched unit rather than swapping a single side of glass.

If your double-pane window looks cracked on one side but the inside is clear, only the unit needs replacing, not the frame. We confirm which you have when we measure, then order the right glass.

Is a cracked window worth saving, or does it need new glass?

Cracked window glass almost always needs a new pane rather than a patch. A crack spreads, weakens the pane and lets in air and water, and on a sealed unit it breaks the insulating seal. We replace the glass and keep the frame.

There is no reliable way to repair cracked window glass in a frame the way a chip in a windshield gets filled. A crack in a single pane keeps travelling with temperature swings, and a cracked double-pane unit has already lost its seal, so it will fog up and lose its insulating value.

The fix is a new pane in the same frame. If the crack is small and the window is still secure, it is not always an emergency, and we can book it for the same day rather than the middle of the night.

03Pricing

How much does it cost to replace a broken window pane?

Window glass is priced per pane, set by the size and type of glass, not a flat call-out rate. A small single pane sits at the low end. A large picture window or a big sealed double-pane unit sits higher. You get a clear price before any glass is ordered or fitted.

What drives the price:

  • Single pane versus a sealed double-pane insulated unit.
  • Pane size: a small basement window is far cheaper than a large picture window.
  • Glass type: standard, tempered safety glass, or a low-E coated unit.
  • Whether the opening needs boarding up first, billed separately from the glass.
  • Floor level and access: a ground-floor window versus an upper-storey or awkward reach.

Tell us the rough size and whether it is single or double-pane, and we will give you a range on the phone, then a firm price once we measure. Replacing the glass and keeping a sound frame is always cheaper than a full new window.

04While you wait

What to do with a broken window before we arrive

Keep people and pets away from the glass, and do not try to pull large shards out of the frame, since they can shift and cut. Pick up the loose pieces you can reach safely with gloves and thick-soled shoes.

If the pane is wide open and it is cold, wet or a ground-floor opening, we can board it up on the same visit so the room is closed off until the new glass goes in. Have the rough size of the window ready when you call.

It helps us bring the right glass and quote you faster.

05FAQ

Common questions

How long does a window glass replacement take?

A single pane we can cut to size is often done in one visit, sometimes within the hour once we are on site. A sealed double-pane unit, tempered glass, or an odd size has to be cut and ordered, so we secure the opening the same day and come back to fit the unit once it is ready, usually within a few days.

Can you replace window glass in winter?

Yes, we replace window glass year-round. Cold weather does not stop a glass swap: the pane is out for minutes, not hours, and the opening is closed the same visit. In a Toronto winter a broken pane is worth dealing with quickly, since it leaks heat all day.

Do you replace window glass in condos and apartments?

Yes, we work in houses, condos and apartments across the GTA. In a condo the window may be the corporation's responsibility rather than yours, so it is worth checking with your property manager first. We can coordinate access with building staff either way.

Is it worth upgrading a single pane to double-pane glass?

Usually the frame decides. A single-glazed frame is built for one sheet of glass and rarely has the depth for a sealed double-pane unit, so a like-for-like pane is the normal fix. If insulation is the goal, we will tell you on site whether your frame can take a sealed unit or whether that is a bigger window job.

Is a broken window an emergency or can it wait?

If the pane is wide open to the street, the weather, or a security risk, treat it as an emergency and we will secure it the same visit. A small crack in an otherwise solid window is not urgent, and we can book the glass replacement for the same day instead.

Can you match the glass in an older or non-standard window?

Most standard window glass thicknesses we carry on the van or can cut same-day. Older homes and unusual frame sizes sometimes need measuring first, so we confirm the exact fit on site rather than guess over the phone.
